Dubuque Speedway Set to Open Sunday Night

The very popular Dubuque Speedway is set to spring into action this Sunday night, April 17th with the running of the annual Pioneer Rest Area season opener. The Dubuque Speedway will feature 4 classes of IMCA race cars in 2016, the Out Pace Late Models will headline therace program with Merfeld Brothers Auto Modifieds, GSI Collision Specialists Sportmods and IMCA Stock Cars rounding out the program.Sunday night racing action, under the direction of SPI, on the high banked 3/8 mile clay track gets underway with hot laps at 6 pm and racing to follow. The early start time will allow all fans the opportunity to get home early and get ready for the work week ahead.

Several special events will highlight the 2016 Dubuque Speedway season. Friday, May 13th the traveling Open Late Model Stars of the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association will make their first ever visit to the Dubuque Speedway. The special night of Late Model racing will mar kthe return of one of Eastern Iowa's favorite Late Model Drivers .Brian Birkhofer has ended his one year retirement and is returning to racing on a very limited basis. Birkhofer has many ties to the Dubuque area and his return is sure to cause a great deal of excitement. May 13th will feature a full night of Late Model racing as the IMCA Late Models will accompany the MLRA stars. The Dubuque Speedway will host 2 Tri-Track Late Model Specials featuring the Out Pace Late Models, May 29th and July 3rd will be the dates. The Deery Brothers Summer Series IMCA Late Models will be making their lone appearance at the Dubuque Speedway on Sunday, July 10th. The Dubuque County Fair will again be highlighted by three nights of racing action, Tuesday, July 26th the open wheel cars will be the main attractionwith the Sprint Invader Sprint Cars and the Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modifieds taking top billing. Wednesday, July 27th the Julien Dubuque Classic will be held with all weekly racing classes in action. The Fair will wrap up on Sunday, July 31st with race day at the Fair. The afternoon Demolition Derby will be followed by a full night of racing.
